La Cresta Ridge and Ravine as Permanent Open Space will:
- Provide access to the spectacular views that are uniquely possible from this ridge—the Petaluma downtown area to the east, and Helen Putnam Regional Park to the west.
- Protect important ecological resources
Provide recreational opportunities for adults and children
Offer an easily accessible “open classroom” where children from nearby schools can learn about nature in nature.
Provide a continuous pathway from the urban west side to Helen Putnam Park
- Help preserve Petaluma’s rural heritage
- Provide safe walking routes for kids going to and from school in keeping with the Safe Routes to Schools program.
